Why Bother?
He also brought me out into a broad place; He delivered me because He delighted in me.
Psalm 18:19 NKJV
Have you ever just been caught up in the wonderment of Jesus' taking of notice of you? That he cares about you and cares about what concerns you?
That we, as just mere humans, would matter to the great and mighty God is, well, baffling.
This, too, was David's sentiments in Psalms 4:8. He says "What is man that You are mindful of him, And the son of man that You visit him?" David was meditating on the glories of God's handiwork and then, in the midst of all this, he landed on one significant question—why, in all of this, would God care about us?
Why?
Recently I had the opportunity to share my faith with a new convert. He was amazing; he didn't hide or shrink back from asking hard questions and expecting viable answers. He asked theological, exegetical, doctrinal, and various other "big-word-al" questions.
Phew! He definitely challenged me, but more importantly he refreshed in me the joy of what a wondrous thing it is to even matter to the Creator of all things.
In the closing moment of our conversation he said to me "if anyone studies out the complexities of this universe—which are phenomenal—they’d be a fool to deny that there is a God. That being said why would He care about us? Why would He bother going to the trouble to save a people who refuse Him? Why?" This was his emphatic question.
I just stood silent, the only movement, tears teeming past the borders of my eyelids....
He seemed to think I was “stumped”...I wasn't.
I was struck!
I had been stricken with the reality that there is ONLY one reason He would go to the trouble...
He wanted to.
That's it. He wanted to!
You see,
He delivered us, because He delighted in us. (Psalms 18:19b)
Love you Ladies!
